Prof. Sun received his B.S. degree in chemistry from East China University of Science and Technology in 1993. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1999 from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (supervisor, Prof. Zuwei Xi), he moved to University of Paris V as a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Daniel Mansuy. After that he joined Prof. Werner R. Thiel’s lab at Chemnitz University of Technology in 2001. In 2006 he was appointed as the head of the X-ray Diffraction Laboratory in Chemistry Department at Kaiserslautern University of Technology, and now he is a senior lecturer there. His research interests include organometallic chemistry, X-ray structure analysis, inter-/intra- molecular weak interactions, and homogeneous catalysis, especially ligand design and process development.
In this lecture, he will first present his recent works in functionalizing triphenylphosphine ligands through 1) introducing polyether chain or pyrazolylpyridine motif in the backbone through an imine linker, and 2) introducing pyrazole and pyrimidine (eventually also NHC-) groups into triphenylphosphine to form hemilabile P,N- bidentate ligands. Then he will example the coordination chemistry of these ligands and their applications in homogeneous catalysis like C-C coupling reactions.
